The A3 external drum of the 380 is designed for scanning all of the traditional media, including
transparency, reflection, linework and colour negatives.A mounting device is included for quick
and easy original placement. For increased ease of use and improved quality a professional
mounting device is available for the external drum which features a pull down roller ensuring
perfect original to drum contact and consistent oil-mounting.

The highly acclaimed SlickMount system is also available as an option with the 380. SlickMount is an oil
based internal drum mounting method that delivers significant improvements in mounting time and scan
quality. It combines the acknowledged advantages of oil mounting with the simplicity of the internal
drum. Transparencies are placed in a mounting channel inside the SlickMount drum and one or two
drops of SlickMount fluid are then applied between each original and the drum surface with a pipette.
When the scanner drum spins the transparency is pressed against the wall of the drum forcing out the
oil in between. As the drum gathers speed a thin film of SlickMount fluid travels from a reservoir at the bottom of the drum
to cover the originals, totally eliminating Newtonís rings and eradicating scratches on the non-emulsion side of the
transparency.

The 380 is driven by the popular and intuitive ScanXact colour conversion and sharpening software
which has been updated to extend and improve the RGB scanning range while simplifying the
interface. ScanXact drives the 380 as both a traditional CMYK scanner and as an RGB input device
for the ICC colour management environment.

This versatility is achieved by a new series of look-uptables
which are automatically selected depending on the media being scanned and the file format required. If PhotoshopÆ is your
preferred colour management tool then ScanXact will deliver the highest quality, sharpened, raw RGB scans directly into the
application. If your original requires any tonal or colour editing, ScanXact has the tools to achieve this and save the changes as a
custom embedded input profile which will retain the integrity of your original, should you need it.
The feature rich tool set available to ScanXact includes:
- full five point gradation to correct for over and under exposed originals
- selective global colour correction to clean or boost dirty or de-saturated colours
- auto grey correction for the simple removal of unwanted colour casts
- comprehensive cross channel sharpening with a tonal equaliser and preview mode
- thresholding and interactive preview for better and faster lineart scanning
- ink reduction, including UCR, UCA and GCR algorithms
Scanning colour negatives has been improved and simplified by the addition of custom look-uptables,
giving faster setup, more accurate colour rendition and smoother results. All these features
combined with the batch setup and background scanning mode will keep your productivity to the
optimum by continuing to scan whilst you work on your high resolution files in other retouching,
colour management and page assembly applications.
The 380 scanner and ScanXact software offer the highest possible quality for the discerning colour professional.Maximised flexibility
allows full image repurposing for a wide variety of markets at an investment level comparable with that of the high-end flatbeds.
